Wax, sealant, or PPF – what's the real difference for a daily driver?

I've been using regular car wax on my cars for years, and honestly I've always been pretty happy with the results – a nice deep shine, decent water beading, and it doesn't cost a fortune, but I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing out on something better with all the talk about paint protection film and ceramic coatings these days. I've got a new car arriving soon and I'm trying to decide how much I should actually invest in protecting the paint, because I've never really considered anything beyond my usual routine of washing, drying, and applying a coat of wax every few months. From what I've gathered, wax is basically the old-school approach that gives you a warm glow and some basic protection, but it doesn't last very long in harsh conditions and offers almost no resistance to stone chips, whereas sealants are synthetic polymers that last longer and offer better chemical resistance, but still don't provide the physical barrier that PPF does. PPF seems like the ultimate protection but it's also the most expensive and requires professional installation, whereas wax or sealant is something I can apply myself in the driveway over a weekend. I found a pretty comprehensive breakdown of PPF versus wax versus sealant the complete paint protection comparison, which helped me understand the trade-offs between cost, durability, and protection level, but I'd still like to hear from people who've actually used different options. Has anyone here moved from wax to PPF and found it made a noticeable difference in keeping the car looking good over the years? And on the flip side, has anyone felt that PPF was overkill for their daily driver and gone back to simpler protection methods? I'm particularly keen to know whether the upfront cost of PPF actually pays off in the long run compared to just regularly waxing a car, or if it's mostly for people who are really obsessive about their paint. Any honest advice from people who've been through this would be massively helpful because I'm trying to figure out where my money is best spent.
